I hope 2022 has gotten off to a pleasant and rewarding start for all of you. As I reflect on the new year ahead of us, I also reflect on the recent past and mark some of the incredible progress our school has made. One of those signs of progress is in the expansion and elevation of our business research.
Last year, we tripled the number of Canada Research Chairs in our school with the very deserving recognition of Professors Atty Mashatan and Rupa Banerjee, who join Anatoliy Gruzd with that distinction. The appointment of CRCs is recognition that the Ted Rogers School is a home to the best of the best.
Our research rankings are strong on many of the most prestigious lists. The influential QS World Universities Ranking of business schools lists Business Management Studies at Ryerson as #4 in Canada for citations per paper. The Shanghai Rankings placed our Hospitality and Tourism Management research at #2 in Canada and ranked Management in the overall top 10 in Canada for Q1 publications between 2015-2019.
These are all measures of a real change in the research culture at our school. Whether it is the faculty-led reaction of a research writing group profiled below, or the launch of our PhD program, which has also attracted outstanding candidates like Charlie Wall-Andrews (also profiled in this newsletter), it all adds up to a big point of pride for all of us: the Ted Rogers School is a hotbed of leading-edge business research and a great place to help shape the future of business here and around the world.
